The Director
General of Police - Meghalaya
On behalf of all the men and women of Meghalaya Police who are at your service to ensure your safety and security, I welcome you to this Web Site. I hope this site will provide you with useful, first hand information for the citizens. We will constantly keep this site updated with information that may be of interest to you.
Our State has been passing through difficult times. It is necessary that we ensure complete peace in all areas of the State, so that the Government as well as our people can bestow their undivided attention towards economic development and nation building. On behalf of Meghalaya Police, I wish to assure you that we shall make all efforts to root out militancy and criminality and that we shall be following a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards all kinds of crime. We shall be shortly launching a series of campaigns, with a view to strengthen and enhance your safety and security.
It
shall be our endeavor to discharge our duties in a transparent, fair and
equitable manner and also promote and foster good quality communication between
the citizens and the police. I
believe that the effectiveness of the Police will depend upon how effectively we
can secure the cooperation and support of the citizens whom we seek to serve.
I also strongly believe that it is essential to ensure a free and
open exchange of information between the police and members of the community. For
this purpose, Citizens’ Committees consisting of respectable and apolitical
residents of the locality will be set up at the Police Station and District
levels. We would also like to take
the support of the traditional institutions of the State towards achieving this
objective.
I would therefore, call upon every one of you to extend all support and cooperation to the Meghalaya Police to help us serve you better. I would specially call upon the youth and the student community to launch a campaign against all kinds of violence and to do everything possible to strengthen peace and harmony in our State.
